‘Komposisi Kompos’ is an initiative by DIVISI62 to stimulate free sonic expression determined by a set of performative instructions. The open call was publicized on Thursday, 28 April 2020 and submissions were accepted until Tuesday, 12 May 2020.

Contributors were requested to send audio recordings of them performing the following:
1 Take an object within your proximity and produce as many different sounds as possible with it. Use any means necessary.
2  Take two or more objects that you and the person closest to you (physically or virtually) recently used. Engage in a conversation by only using those objects.
3  If one of your most coveted items comes to life, what kind of sounds would it make? Express it using your voice.
4  Think of three words that illustrate your current state of mind. Repeat those words verbally while eating or showering.
5  Take a quote from your favorite books/movies and recite them with joy, misery or anger. The words and delivery don’t have to be in the same context.

The idea behind ‘Komposisi Kompos’ is to propose a non-realtime method of collaboration with friends and colleagues who may or may not be comfortable in expressing ideas through sound-producing activities. It is an exercise to engage in redundant physical actions that would evoke creativity, trigger imagination and raise the sensibilities of our hearing. The results would then be molded into sound compositions.

The editing and compositional process were informed by the spontaneity and personal quality of the recordings sent in by the contributors. Both satirical and bleak, the content of the recordings mirror the chaotic disposition, anxiety-induced impulses, and an overall sense of disorientation that penetrates our shared consciousness. These emotional fragments form pseudo-relationships with each other, as they morph into new shapes and converge in manic collision throughout these seven pieces.

No additional instruments or sound sources were involved in the making.
